Time to use Biodegradable Packaging Material?

In our daily life, we are surrounded by plastic products such as household plastic products, Plastic Rubbish Bag, Plastic Shopping Bags and more. It looks like that we could not live without plastics. However, we really could go green without the throwaway plastic bags to protect the environment and pass on a healthier planet to future generations,

An authorized WWF report on global plastic pollution published earlier this March shows that about 75 % of produced plastics worldwide are now waste and at least 1/3 of them have polluted land and sea due to lacking waste management policies. This causes devastating consequences on wildlife.

WWF warned that without drastic changes immediately, plastic waste in the marine environment will double to 300 million tons by 2030 from current levels.

Waste plastic accumulates in seas and oceans. Most are eaten by marine species, such as sea turtles, seals and whales, but also by fish and shellfish. Since the rate of decomposition is very slow, the plastic residue is found in their stomach and belly and therefore in the human food chain.

Therefore waste plastic has become a global crisis that threatening our home land and health. It is important to have all parts involved, the state, the private sector and local society along the local administration. All together through cooperation at the extent where each one can contribute to achieve the reduction of plastic. However, this is only one solution. More efforts should be put on to develop Compostable Plastic Material as replacement and government should provide incentives to encourage the use of Biodegradable Bag.
